Eversim: description of a young and innovative enterprise

We hear from Louis-Marie Rocques, co-founder of Eversim
Since it was created in 2004, Eversim has come a long way in the world of video games. After «Mission President», its pioneering title based on artificial intelligence combined with geopolitics, the SME from Noisiel is poised to win over new markets. We focus the spotlight on a business that is unlike any other.

What can you tell us about Eversim?
Eversim is a French company that produces strategy and simulation games. The Company was set up by myself and my partners after we had worked in the video business for 17 years. From the outset, we decided to specialize in a very specific type of game primarily targeting the adult market. Our aim: to excel in a niche market and to avoid comparison with the market giants. Currently, our main product is a game called «Mission President» which was launched on the French market in March 2007. 

Tell us about «Mission President»
This is a geopolitical simulation game where the player takes on the role of a Head of State. The aim of the game: to lead a country …. and stay in power! Mission President uses macro-economic modeling combined with an artificial intelligence system to produce an original experience. VAT, electoral system, weather conditions, budget, natural resources etc. All the data used is real and it is up to the player to make the best of them. From the moment it was launched, the game was an outright winner and we hope that it will become a market benchmark.

How did you finance your first steps?
Having worked out the development costs for our game, we approached Club Invest 77, a group of business angels in Marne-la-Vallée. They liked our innovative project and Club Invest invested in the business. Since then, they have given us continued support, providing an outside view of our strategy and a valuable list of addresses. Through Oséo-Anvar, we have also received the support of the General Military Directorate [Direction Générale de l’Armement] which undoubtedly appreciates the fact that our simulator combines diplomacy and military aspects. 

Being a member of Cap Digital is surely an advantage?
The advantage of a competitiveness centre such as Cap Digital is that it constitutes synergies that enable us to create large scale projects with a range of partners – not just businesses but also universities or research laboratories that can contribute their expertise. This is an extremely interesting line of development for our products that feature high levels of innovation and R&D. In time, we shall be publishing an educational version of our geopolitical simulator and Cap Digital will be the ideal place for successfully completing this project. 

And what about your projects?
We shall shortly be marketing «Mission President» abroad with a new version of the game centered on the 2008 American elections. Another challenge: bringing out a massively multi-player game 2009. Currently under development, this will be an interactive version playable on the Internet where players will be pitted against each other for several months. Finally, we are currently working on «Nous les dieux» [We are the gods], a game of strategy based on two works by Bernard Werber. This time, the player’s aim will consist in changing the destiny of Man by playing the role of ….. an apprentice to the gods.
